Type 2 (Mennekes IEC 62196) is the standard 7-pin connector used by all modern European EVs (Volkswagen, BMW, Tesla via adapter, etc.). Most new UK home chargers are Type 2 tethered or untethered.
This is more challenging but not impossible. Some local councils offer on-street charging infrastructure via lamppost-mounted charge points. If you rent with a parking space, your landlord may be eligible for an OZEV grant. Speak to your local council and an OZEV-approved installer to explore your options.
As of April 2026, the main residential OZEV grant is the chargepoint grant for renters and flat owners, which provides up to £500 towards the cost of installing a home charge point.
